In September 2024, the Living in Lagos Artists Collective (LiLAC) marked a significant milestone with the opening of their first group exhibition. Held at their studio in the LACO Business Hub in Chinicato, the event showcased the collective’s unique artistic voices while celebrating the vibrant local art scene.

LiLAC, founded by five dynamic women artists—Beata Pałach, Claire Lloyd-Bown, Alex Plummer, Mallika Gardiner, and Jung-Ah (Joanne) Kim—has quickly established itself as a creative hub in Lagos. Their shared studio space not only serves as a place for artistic creation but also fosters community engagement through workshops in painting, drawing, and creative exploration.

The opening exhibition featured a diverse range of works, reflecting the individual styles and inspirations of each artist. Beata Pałach presented eco-conscious artworks inspired by the Algarve’s natural beauty, using sustainable materials. Claire Lloyd-Bown’s dreamlike mixed-media pieces captured the energy of daily life, while Alex Plummer’s intuitive visual storytelling explored themes of self-expression and social justice. Mallika Gardiner’s paintings bridged Eastern and Western influences, and Joanne Kim’s evocative oil and acrylic works delved into personal memory and emotion.
